I'm honored to have my fellow Hornby Islander and friend playing one of my Marquis Oval hole guitars on his latest CD 'IV'. Marc's commission entailed several custom changes to my usual design including :
- short-scale length of 640mm (regular is 670) with a 14 fret neck
- narrower neck of 43mm at nut and 54mm at 14th fret join. (reg. 45/58)
- 16" radius fretboard
- Adirondack spruce top (red spruce)
- Cocobolo back and sides
- Bare fretboard, no face markers
The guitar has an amazing and zingy tone to it with easily afforded sustain and playability.
I really enjoy Marc's playing and feel he is one of a new wave of gypsy-style players, and has a definite vision is his songs. He is a great composer who mixes early jazz roots with other genres such as honky-tonk, pop and inventive fingerstylings. He is very well matched with Joey and Rueben's solid backing. You can check out Marc's site and hear some of his music, especially his latest cd here: The Marc Atkinson Trio
